Coordination and Neutralization in HPSG

In this paper, we use lattice theory to present an account of
neutralization and coordination of unlikes that can easily be
incorporated into current HPSG, where linguistic objects are modelled
as totally well-typed, sort resolved feature structures. The account
draws on the analysis of Levy 2001 and is consistent with the HPSG
analysis of neutralization proposed by Levine et al. 2001. We show
the essential properties required of a coordination/neutralization
lattice, and argue that our analysis is the minimal lattice satisfying
these requirements. The HPSG-based account of the same phenomena
presented in Daniels 2001 of this collection is shown by
lattice-theoretic methods to be essentially equivalent to ours.
